Default Hurst shifter jumping gears.. Why??

I have a custom plate made to make a hurst shifter work on a factory console (BTW, I am having a few extras made, anyone wants one, send a PM for details before they go on classifieds). Anyways, when I took the plate loose to have it duplicated, I just left the shifter cable hooked to the shifter. Well, I put everything back together tonight and when rowing the gears back to 1, everything is fine. When I'm trying to go forward, everything is fine until I try to go to R or Park and it then pushes the cable through the hole on the front of the shifter the holds it in place. It was never a problem before and I really didn't think it would be now since the cable was never removed and the shifter was never moved more than a couple inches. Anyone have any ideas for a quick fix or am I going to have to start over again?
