Question I found a 3600 stall for 1K - guys, need some input pls!

Hi there! I'm going to be putting in gears - the 1:3.73:1 gear ratio and thought that a 3800 stall would work - but I just got a sweet offer on a '2-month-old stall' that this guy wants to let go for $1K.

Questions:

What am I looking for?
Is it a bunch of ****?
Is that a hot deal - but if so how will I know??

Remember I'm just starting out with my mods but my car "T-Rex" already kicks *** and takes names - I just want it to be more dramatic as in

Now you see me

to -

Where'd she go??

any advice, insight and other comments that would help me are greatly needed and appreciated boys !!!

ALso - wouldn't I want to do the gears first?

AND actually wouldn't I want to kick the WHOLE thing off with a Lifetime Dyno Tune so I can see what I'm starting with???

Thanks

Gabriele

Gears and stall at the same time will be dramatic. It will feel like a different car not just when trying to go fast, but when putzing around town too. I went from 2.73 gears and stock stall to 3.73 and a 3800 stall and I loved it. But it may not be for all people.

Also, $1k for a used stall converter is pretty nuts unless it comes with a free transmission behind it. A new Yank stall is around $750... http://www.converter.cc/F_Body_s/59.htm

$1k for a used stall?!?!? You so crazy! Get a Yank SS3600. Under $800 and was awesome with my 3.73s.

Custom made billet FTI converter for $700-$750 brand new...they have some off the shelf units also but why not contact them and get a custom spec'ed one for the same price? Mine is an SRLS series 3391, which is ~3500 stall with 2.35STR, I know the SRLS7082 is a 3800 "Hard Hit" I think it has like a 2.5-2.7 STR, and I think the SRLS0086 is a 3600 stall with a 1.78 STR.

Its hard to say exactly what converter you need without you going to our website and filling out a build sheet on FTIConverters.com but our stall converters start at $615. Fill out a build sheet and we will call and talk to you.

Thanks,
Champ

Maybe it is a used multi disk converter, but $1000 for a used one is even a little high. And for your setup a single disk is good. And you can get a new for under $1K easily. We are in Texas as well and be glad to help you spec out a converter. Give me a call or shoot me an Ask Chris - be glad to help.

No, 1k is NOT a good idea.

Several Converter guys on here that have New verts for cheaper. Buy a new one from one of them and talk to them about the one that is right for you!

I don't think she has a T-Rex cam, it sounds like she is calling her car T-Rex. But yeah, NO to that price for a used converter when you can get a brand new one for less.
Also with gears and converter, get a good pair of drag radials to go with the set up or you'll just spin.
