Default 4L60E acting up

Hi guys. I have this nice long stretch of road I like to go play on from time to time. It's a straight away in the middle of farmland with no other roads or driveways for at least a mile. I sometimes practice 1/4 mile runs there in preperation for the track which just now opened up again.

Anyway I did a full 1/4 mile run the other day from a dig to about 110. I went in third instead of OD as It's recommended by most. I hit the rev limiter and threw a SES code. This is the second time this has happened. It seems that when I'm in third it doesn't always do the 2nd to 3rd shift in time to avoid the limiter. But it doesn't always not make it either. I also noticed my rpm's were way high as I shutdown as if it was gonna bounce the rev limiter again. I thought the top of third gear for me would be about 125 not 110? Is something wrong with my tranny?

I did a few runs in OD and had no issues so it's making me wonder. I just bought a TCI 3500 TC. I was about to head to Speed Inc soon to buy a shif kit, tranny cooler and have them install it all. But now I'm thinking twice about it. This may sound crazy but I'm considering ragging my tranny hard. See I have 11 months left on a bumper to bumper warranty I bought with the car. If my tranny goes out now then I can get it rebuilt for just a $50 deductable. The risk I'd be taking however is the tranny not breaking in the 11 months and then of course I would have shot myself in the foot so to speak.

what do you guys think? I don't have the SES code ATM because I do not own a HPP3 or Predator but I will probably head to autozone after work. But if it's like last time the SES light will just go out on it's own between here and there. Only other detail I can remember is the temperature was cool at both cases of rev limiter bouncing. The car was fully warmed up but it was probably only high fifties outside.

Race in OD, and I'd leave the tranny alone. Get some tuning which will remove Torque Management.

you don't need OD for a quarter mile pass with 3.23s....personally i use D even with my 3.42s. from the symptoms you describe (2-3 rev limiter and high rpm for mph) it sounds like the trans is slipping....however the fact that it doesnt happen in OD puzzles me.... get the code scanned and post up what u find.....also a hypertech wont read trouble codes in case you ever decide to invest in one. good luck.

Race in OD because being in D changes the shift points somehow. That is why he is hitting rev limiter. Your right about not needing 4th gear for racing but the computer changes shift driving in D. Why I do not know. But it will not harm your tranny. Nor do I really think it will help you being in D instead of OD.

For whatever reason, a LOT of people, myself included, have problems with it hitting the rev limiter on the 2-3 shift in "D" range.

I plop it in OD and just go, never an issue.

if it changes the shift points it might help.....a lot of people have told me D is better ( i dont remember y exactly)...personally it usually makes about .05 seconds difference or so....

is it really that prevalent to have it bang the limiter in D??? (if so, i guess i got lucky with my setup).

i race in OD and D didn't matter. The ecu is tuned. Anyhoo oddly my trans shifts about 200rpm before desired (was 6200 then set to 6800). I'm guessing the shiftkit might have something to do with the anticapitory shift request).

get the cooler and shiftkit dude. when the trans goes up in smoke it will probably throw crap into the converter. buh bye verter
