Default How long will trans last with H/C

Had a bad lifter and it took out one of the lobes on my cam and also messed up the valve stem on one of my valves from the pics that I had received from my LS mechanic. https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...-breakage.html

Since heads will have to get machined, looking into getting 243s instead for around the same money.

Question is, having heads and cam on the car, how long will the stock transmission last with that kind of power? Won't be going to the track till I switch out the gears and the car will be driven approximately 3-4 days a week. Will still be running an LS1 intake.

Thanks in advance.

Well so far, mine has held up for 8 yrs with heads and 2 different cams and 2 different stalls with about a good 200 or more 1/4 mile passes. Still drive and shifts just fine ....for now.

It should last you a long time even if you race every once in a awhile.

Running low 11s at 120...... makes me feel better. I know that once I decide to add nitrous, that torque spike...... Ok good, I can concentrate on the trans once I get the gears done. Thanks.

Every car is different, I wouldn't go above 450rwhp on the stock transmission personally, but a H/C in an auto will usually be in the 390-440 range so it could be ok. Obviously the harder you drive it the greater chance it will give out. A cooler will help a little, shift kit also.

Car already has a stall and cooler. I don't drive it hard either, last time I was at the track was in 2006.

Current condition is a factor too. If it has 130k miles on it, fluid has never been changed, etc that will reduce life expectancy also.

If you don't drive it hard and take care of it then it should be fine.

Get a good cooler on it and that will help. Depends a lot on the RPM range of the heads/cam. The higher the RPM the worse it's going to be for a stock trans.

Trans has 86K miles and I change the fluid every 30-50K miles depending on how hard I get on it. One point in time I was changing it every 2 weeks because of the hairline crack that the stock bushing (or lack thereof) created.

Has a cooler on it, believe that it was shifting at 6500 rpms with the cam but you know how accurate the gauges are in these cars.
