th400 3.42s... what stall
My question, this is a pretty heavy car and my motor is making around 450 at the wheels right now. Looking for a stall that will run decent on the street but get me some solid 60s too! I have a hard time getting 1.8s on drs right now, hoping this swap will get me 1.70s and get my car in solid 11s. Was thinking of a 3500-3600 would be nice... what do you guys recomend, I am running the stock hight tire 28.7"
No more axle worries and smoked clutches will be nice too!
What would happen with mine, is that I would stage up, actvate the transbrake, floor it, and then let it rip. The car would FULL hook, and then try to climb out of the hole. The best sixty foot it got was a 1.80 exactly.
What the problem is, is either a 3.42-3.50 gear is way to high, or your stall is way too low. Even if you put a crazy 5000 stall in the car, that would still not be the perfect combination as that would produce a LOT of tranny heat.
I am currently swapping my rear to 4.56's, and then I will go back out and see how she does. I am expecting that it will perform alot better.
Long story short: If you are swapping your car to a TH400 and want to have great sixty foots, you need to be prepared to sacrifice some on the street. I would have at LEAST a 3.90 gear in the car, and at LEAST a 3600rpm stall. Keep in mind my car is easily a good 800 pounds lighter than your car and I have a transbrake in my tranny.
Hope this helped you some, good luck!
