Going to get convertor for 2000 Camaro z28 car has long tubes cat less y pipe, cai, and 3.23 gears and is tuned by frost right now, it has gone high 12's in cool air. Have had high stall convertors in older cars with shorter gears so was just wondering what would be the best compromise for street and track with this setup, would change to 3.73 if I had to but kid puts some highway mile on car and is nice to cruise at 80mph right now. thanks

 

i've had a yanks 3600 in my car for 3 years and put about 50,000 miles on it since installed with a bunch of track passes too. I travel 100 miles a day and the converter is a great converter. If i were to do it again i would go with the 4,000 and not look back. My lock up is set at 35mph so gas milage is not hurt bad at all. I also have 3.73's in my car now but didnt have it for the first year of driving the car with the 3600 stall. The gears to me made no difference and didnt do sh*t for me at the track. Whichever convert you go with you will be pleased but my votes for the 4,000

 

I would keep the 3.23's in any case, and if the car is driven daily or frequently, I'd go with the 3600. Weekend or track car I'd consider the 4000.

 

There was a thread about a week or 2 ago where people with a 4000 stall getting 40miles or less per 1/4 tank. So thats something to take into count if you drive your car alot.

Avg of 35 miles per 1/4 x 4 (1/4s) = 140 miles per tank full (if you dont get on the go pedal)

 

Car is my daughters weekend, drive it to work 1 mile each day car, pretty much a fun goof around car for her, that I beat on a couple times a month at the track. I really want the 4000 because I have bought convertors for older style cars and always wished I had went looser.

 

I have had both in my SS. 3600 was to tight IMO so I went with the Yank 4000 and have been happy with it. MPG does suffer but this is not a daily driver. My .02 cents, 4000.

 

Y2K SS A4 ran ST3600 X 3.23 and 3.73 8-10 years. now SS4000 3.73 and 4.10/9",
( may have to go back down to 3.90 )
have no idea on gas milage not driven very much ( 1k miles ?? per year)
very happy with converter setup ( gear ? )

3.23s' with SS3600 or SS4000 will be fine. Either one you get,you will ALWAYS be wondering about the other one,always happens.

my 3600 with 4.10s drives like stock. once lockup occurs mileage isnt drastically affected.

 

Love my 4k. Around town mileage does suck, like 160-180 miles to a tank (something like 13 mpg) but highway I still get like 23ish mpg. I would never go tighter on a stall if I had to do it again.

4000... If you are even considering a larger converter now, do it. Most of the time if someone is dead set against the larger converter... They will end up wishing they would have went larger.

 

SS3600 here,drives extremely close to stock.....get the 4k!!

 

ss4000 here, I was told if your going to spray then you probably want the 3600. I had a no name 3500 stall before, and I picked up 4 tenths switching to the yank. as for everyday driving the 4000 will seem loose at first, but you will get used to it pretty quick. i have 3.73 gears also and highway driving is fine.
