Default Tci converters

I have a 98 ta auto and have gone thru 2 tci 3500 stalls, and wondering if others have had bad luck from them. The service from tci was just as bad, they told me to rebuild one between 150 to 200 dollars not bad cause new over 600. Paid the 40 bucks shipping and sent it, a week later a call from them said mine could not be rebuilt but could put one together for 400 dollars and reminded me what they cost new.told the guy i would call him back , (second mistake should have said ok , first was buying their product) and i missed them they were closed when i called. After leaving a dozen voice messages over a period of couple weeks i called sales dept and was told could not sell to me at that price that the parts cost that much and i needed to talk to the guy who told me that and was dumped into his voice mail again with no answer no return call nothing. Thats bad business and a heck of a way to get cores to rebuild. Im out a lot of $ but its done me some good knowing someone will read this. Wingmun

There are many stories here about bad customer service from TCI.
In contrast, sponsors like CircleD, Revmax and Yank all give excellent service.
They sell very good converters for around $500 and excellent ones for $750; all will be much better than TCI and will be custom built to your needs.

When I was looking into TC's I read the sticky and found out that the crappy ones have a bracket welded on to adapt them. After looking I saw that almost all the TCI converters have that bracket. Apparently the ones with a bracket are just built ones from like Cavaliers or something. They lack the grip apply area on the inside...

In the very first page it explains the TCI torque converters.

I liked the fluid part of my SF3000 but the lockup clutch is
just too damn wimpy. It was a very efficient converter but
it laid over too soon. The 3500 is not as efficient and the
3800 is a real pig. They both have craptastic clutches too.

I'm in the middle of pulling a toasted 60e right now from a tci converter. The lockup clutch failed and took out the transmission with it.

I haven't heard too many great things about TCI. Glad I went with my Yank so far.
