Question What stall should I install?

Hey guys,

Still a novice at all this and would like some expert opinions....
LS1 - 99 Formula
Final modification (I know - that's what they always say ... ) I already have the intake, manifold, exhaust, headers, 373, HD2 shiftkit, tune ... all your basic bolt on upgrades. Car runs and sounds great but now it's finally time for a cam. I'm getting a Texas Speed 233 (got the ls2 timing chain, ls6 ported oil pump, and LS7 lifters) and am looking at a 3800 stall. I know Yank is a very good company and obviously are the most expensive (get what you pay for).... But what are your experiences with other - less expensive but still solid- stalls? And is 3800 a good number?

Look forward to your answers - thank you

3800 is an excellent number. 3600-4000 with 3.73s' is the norm. Most run the Yank SS3600 or SS4000.

Less expensive stalls would be B&M,TCI,Hughes,& Ebay stalls(and used stalls).

I have that cam (233/239) and run a 4000 SS converter. My opinion is the converter is a lot more important than the cam.The converter gave me the most gains.

I have an ss3600 w/ 3.73s and I think it's a great combo for a street car. I used to dd my car with the converter and it was fine around town.

Revmax might be another company to look at. When I first saw the stalls on Fleabay, I thought Chinese junk, but found out they are all American and have a very loyal following and make a very good product ,especially for the money. I was convinced enough to buy one myself, till my trans builder talked me into one he builds. For 400 bucks you can get a great stall w a balloon plate and good sprag springs in a 9.5" unit. look up the thread on this forum about them. Good stuff.

Is your car a daily driver? Just a street cruiser? Do you see the track? And how often?
You mentioned being a novice so going off that I'd recommend you stay on the tighter side say 2800-3200.............

Thanks for all the responses ... speaking with many speed shops in my area (Philly) ... Texas Speed ... and even Circle D ... they all recommended 3600 at the least ... with price and quality ... Looks like I'm going Yank SS3600

I recommend at least a 4000 converter. I had a 3500 in my car before and the switch to a 4000 was well worth it. I even daily drove mine for a year or so with the stock 3.23's and ss4000.

PTC is another great company. Converter and cooler for under well 600, shipped. Built custom to your need. No billet front plate, which is what makes yank, circle d, etc in the 800+ ranges. If you don't plan on locking it under WOT you don't need it. Doesn't hurt nothing but your wallet though.

PTC specced me a 4000, 1.5-2.0 STR 10.5" unit. I personally don't mind a daily driver that's on the extreme side, but from reading on these forums I wouldn't touch anything under 4000, and I'm running 2.73s out back. Everyone I see ends up regretting it, restalling, and not looking back. Especially with Yanks, General consensus is that they're tighter than average around town.
