Engine Braking on 4l60e?

Engine Braking on 4l60e? I have read some threads across the internet that said the 4l60e has engine braking in the lower three gears, is this true? Just curious as to how much, 30%-80%-100%? I was thinking about doing a th-350 with a TCI valve body that gave me full manual and engine braking. But if I can get that in the 4l60e and have overdrive it might be a better way to go!

If you install a heavy duty 2-3 shift valve from Sonax it will allow for engine braking in all low gears with the gear selector in 3rd.
Otherwise mine engine brakes in any manually held gear, but what percent I don't know...feels the same as my th350 or 700r4 did.

So for a motor thats only pushing 400-425 and the crank what are some good upgrades to look at for an 4l60e? This would be going into a 1988 bmw 325is. Good stall obviously, but would a heavy duty shift kit be about the only other thing so I could manually shift it?
Trans Go hd2 kit
upgrade sunshell (often called the Beast sunshell)
Trans Go "no yo-yo" high rpm kit
Sonax HD 2-3 shift valve
upgrade sprag assembly
and I would at least upgrade the band and 3-4 clutch pack, preferably also the lower clutches too
If you already have a running transmission in good shape I would do the Sonax 2-3 valve and the Trans Go kit and run it until it gives then build it up.

Awesome man, thanks for all the information. The car is sitting at a pretty light weight, completely finished I'm aiming at 2500lbs. I figured the 4l60e would be more then enough transmission for my setup.
If I want to manually shift through the gears with a winters style shifter, I'd need the transgo kit correct?
