PTC is a well known converter company. They build good stuff. I have many customers running their converters with excellent results.
That said,
PTC specializes in non-lockup converters for really fast cars. Lots of turbo stuff and drag radial guys use their converters.
They have gotten more into the lockup stuff in the last couple of years.
You can do a single disc billet lockup for less than $1200. Our normal pricing is $1000 but I will sell them for them for $875 during my Labor Day sale.
We will also be having a blowout converter sale around the end of the year...

Do people run non-lockup converters with 80e's? Or does that defeat the purpose of going with an overdrive transmission?
It seems anything with lockup will run close to $1k, whereas a standard non-lockup can be had for $500-600. I'm talking about a street/strip converter.
