When mounted on the condenser there is all the airflow from the radiator fans.....like a suction. Pull the cooler off and temps will skyrocket. My brilliant idea of mounting in the bumper proved this to me. I added a fan after two very short trips (think 5 miles and trans was 200+). I even cut the bumper for airflow and it did not matter.

Then I eliminated the stock cooler.

Then I upgraded to a 70274 (about 1/3 bigger).

Then I went to AN stainless lines.

Then I moved it to the bumper after I did a tubular bumper support.

Then I added a fan.
^^My cooler experience in steps in this car with a pan mounted digital gauge the whole way. I've never done dope style or a tube and fin cooler and that's why I don't comment much on that.
How much difference in temp did you see going from standalone 70264 to standalone 70274 (both mounted on front of condensor)...?

Not much honestly. Again it slows the warming and helps when you really need it like hot lapping at the track. I'd say in stop and go traffic you're likely gonna hit 180-200 no matter what cooler you have. Bigger cooler recovers quicker though.

I have never ran without the stock cooler inline. But just wanted to point out that the temperatures for engine and trans are measured at different points. The engine is measured at its hottest point before it leaves the motor. The trans is measured before the fluid passes through the converter so it's still cooler. The factory trans cooler is in the coldest part of the radiator. So if the motor runs 210 and the trans runs 160 then the coolant around the factory trans cooler is probably around 160ish. The fluid coming out of the converter is somewhere around 200. So the factory one does help.

I was in a rush on my trans install due to renting a lift and the 70274 was such a easy I couldn't find anywhere to mount it easily without an independent fan...my SLP cold air intake blocked it from being placed on the condenser, but it's another project for another day..
