4L80e swap, roll races, need opinions!
So I am wanting to swap over to a 4L80E in the near future, and I needed some opinions. As of right now, the car has a stock T56 and I am looking to swap over.
Here's my setup:
408ci LQ9
F1-A proCharger @ 16psi
Advanced Induction 232cc 317 Heads
LS6 Intake
etc...
I am planning to make in the 800+ rwhp range.
So here's the question. Would a full manual valve body 4L80E be a bad idea for roll races? I will be driving the car on the street pretty often, it will only see the strip a few times and will only see a few digs on the street. 95% roll raced. I have never driven/ridden in a big stalled auto or a car with a fmvb and I don't really have the option to. I would just like to know if I'll be messing up going with a FMVB. Thanks.

I did and he hasn't replied to my most recent pm. Haven't talked to him since Friday. I will talk to him when he replies or I'll just call, I was just seeing if I could get some opinions from others who have it in their car. Thank you though.

I have roll raced mine but I'm not fmvb. I can downshift manually and go from there as long as it's not a 1st gear roll. Which, most of the time I do downshift manually doing a roll, and as soon as we go I shift it to 3rd and let the computer shift it for me.
But I'm not much on roll racing either. It's just not my thing.

I'm not sure either. I am new to the auto trans world, and I'm just open to all opinions. I haven't really ridden in a stalled auto car or a fmvb car and unfortunately I don't really have the option to. Everyone I have talked to has said a fmvb would be great from a roll because you can control the rpms like you could in a manual, but I don't want to get it in the car and think "man I wish I hadn't of done this."

Keep it Fully Automatic. Build a strong transmission, Billet stall converter is a must.
Heres Jakes link.... http://jakesperformance.com/4L80E.html
P.S. I will have a Billet 4l80e Lock up converter for sale soon. Its a lower stall speed but it might be perfect for Roll Racing. Let me know...

I agree ^^^^^
keep it automatic cause you WILL get tired of constantly flipping the shifter back n forth. Get the PCM programmed for specific shift points under WOT and let the PCM do all the work for you after you take off...
Manual valve bodies primary build purpose is for the strip. Holding a gear longer than what the transmission is built to consider SAFE.. I am going to be putting a manual valve body in my turbo 400 while it is being rebuilt over the winter. But my truck will be opposite yours, 10% street, 90% strip and I plan to use nitrous on mine also.
Good luck with your decision and I hope it all works well for you.
