Talking ditch the 3/4 return springs ? 4l60e

rebuilding my 4l60e trans, and it seems most people ditch the 3/4 clutch return springs? will this help with the failure of the 3/4 clutches?

There is no consensus on this. The ATSG manual says to ditch them, because IMHO, the stock line pressure is too low and the stock 3rd feed hole too small to strongly engage the 3/4 clutch.
When you increase line pressure with a larger boost valve and/or tuning and drill out the 3rd feed hole, that becomes less of an issue.
Personally, I keep them in because I like to run a fairly tight clearance and want something to keep the backing plate from moving around and lightly applying the frictions. But again no consensus - I have spoken to very knowledgeable and experienced builders that insist they are not needed and others that prefer them.
Personally I use 1/2 of the stiff Transgo springs (for the spring cages) for high RPM because I calculated that using all the springs in unnecessary for anything less than 8000 rpm. I then also use the load release springs.

I will add that the Sonnax Smart-Tech input drum comes with load release springs and instructions to use them.

In short, if you take steps to ensure your 3/4 circuit doesn't have any leaks, that your line pressure is somewhat higher and drill the 3rd feel hole to at least .092 (many go to .120), it probably won't matter.

Those are nice upgrades.
If the Transgo HD2 kit was installed then the 3rd feed hole was drilled out.
The HD2 instructions are here:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...questions.html

Page 4 shows the separator plate; they call it the "2-3 Shift" and specify .093 or .101 (full race). I use the Sonnax servo release check valve which has you drill that hole to .120, but several builders just drill it that big anyway. I'm sure .101 would be fine as long as you don't mind a firm shift at easy throttle.
