Default tci stall any good?

Got a guy with a 3500 tci street fighter that he's trying to sell me for $175. He just went with a nitrous stall. Is it worth it? I have a basically stock 98 ss with 112k miles. Only thing it'll have in the near future is trans cooler, tune, and free mods (lid, ported Tb)

The lockup clutch is very weak on the Streetfighter
series. And very intolerant of non-Dexron ATFs. The
effiency is so-so, better on the 3000/2.2 Streetfighter,
worse on the 3800. I found the "fluid" properties OK,
nice and smooth (TCI spin balances even their cheapos),
the only complaint I really had was the wimp clutch.

And being as that's a wear part, makes these not a
great converter to install used. You have no idea if
it's been scrubbed within a mil or two, of losing the
friction surface altogether (or what might ensue, when
that commences to peel off in chunks).

Now if your upcoming tune is done right, and the
converter isn't pre-abused, you might get it to live
and enjoy it. But I don't think you get to know
ahead of time.

Hm.. It's probably not worth it to me then. If it was a toy, maybe. But being my only dd I don't really want to risk trying it.

I had a TCI 3200; it was very loose and slopping compared to the Yank SS3600 I have now.

Spend the extra money on a nice converter and never have to worry about it (Yank, Vigilante, Circle D to name a few). There's a sticky about budget converters that's worth taking a peek at
