Default surging when converter is locked

Just installed a Circle D converter in my G8 GT and I noticed when cruising with my foot on the gas at say 45 with the converter locked the RPM's will jump about 200-300 rpm then come back down every few seconds. It's almost like the torque converter is unlocking then locking quickly. Normal?

You need to check your desired slip in the tune. Zero this out. If you have any questions give us a call .

Screen shot below of HP Tuners. Everything in the yellow box is supposed to be set to 0.

Just talked to the speed shop/tuner and they said that it is very common for the 6L80 6 speed auto to surge a bit with an aggressive stall. Very reputable shop that is a sponsor on a lot of LS sites.

haven't cruised in it over 45mph. Drove the car home from the shop in sub 0 temps yesterday.

That much slip make me nervous. It could damage the clutch/clutches. We have seen the desired slip tables zeroed out and had the car behave otherwise. I would have your tuner monitor actual slip in real time. That will give us a better understanding of what may be going on.

No slipping. Just torque converter locking and unlocking.

Good thread. My stall is doing the same thing when it locks up. It's annoying . Going to see about getting a better tune.

Log it and see if the slip RPM is going up and down, 0-200 range. If so it sounds like the desired slip tables did not flash correctly in the tune. I have seen a few occasion where even though it says the tables are zero, they are not. The fix was a completer re-write with a GM MDI.

My 4l60e does the same thing with a PTC 4000 stall anywhere from 45-55 mph but never above or below
