Default Huge Gains With Circle D Converter

Hey guys, just wanted to share my recent experience with my new Circle D converter. First of all the car, it is a 2002 C5 with a LS3 on 8psi of boost from a V2 Vortech. Stock heads, forged pistons and rods, stock crank, small cam, still 6.2L displacement. Drivetrain: built 4L65E, Circle D triple disk 3200 stall converter and 3.42 gears. We had the car on the dyno for bit doing some tuning since I had gone from a Yank SS 3600 to the CD tc. The car was pretty hot and due to my small intercooler, it was pulling some timing (138*iat). We did a baseling pull with the converter unlocked, 543/483. We then locked up the converter. 3rd gear pull, 593/561. Thats a gain of 50rwhp and 78rwtq! Yes to the wheels! I was floored. I was expecting maybe a 20-30hp gain and never did I imagine the gain in torque. All these numbers are sae corrected and we did a few pulls so we know they are indeed accurate. We also saw a gain of over 11mph in the 3rd gear pull vs having the converter unlocked. I originally bought the Circle D converter because my Yank was 5 yrs old and not really intended for boost. So I figured a multi clutch converter would be best. I must say its one of the best purchases I have made for the car... ever. Chris from Circle D was very helpful and I see why he asks so many questions in his questionnaire, because he wants to get you the perfect converter for your combo! Hats off to Chris and Circle D. I dont think I'll ever go with another converter.

I've had my Circle D 3600 in for a few weeks and still getting the feel of things. I love it. Its a totally different animal. I've always been told to "build from ground up" by very expereinced LS builders. I'm happy I made this decision and can build more from here.

Have you driven it on the street or track to say how it feels with the locked converter at WOT vs. it unlocked?

I've been driving it on the street. The car just feels much tighter. As soon as you give it throttle it goes. Not sure how to describe it other then just instant power. It's set to kick in at over 80% throttle starting at the top of 2nd. You feel a sudden pull when it locks up, you know the car is moving.

So you stay locked through the 2-3 shift?

Yup, as long as the throttle is over 80%. Top of 2nd and all of 3 and 4.

Nice!!!!

I had a vig 3200 then stepped up to a circle D 5c and that thing is an animal.

The quality in a CD converter is amazing. Hell just the way they package their converter is amazing

As a matter of fact i just ordered another 5c from them.

Pretty much. Flashed to 2nd for second and then from about 80mph its all 3rd gear. It'll go past 150mph in 3rd.

Oh ok so it was 2 gears and a 2-3 shift. I thought the rpm drop was from locking the converter.
