Default Rebuilt with shift kit, have tuning ?....

Alright so before my transmission went out (4l60e, 3-4 clutch pack), I had a basic bolt on mail order tune on it. I'm having my new tranny built with a trans go shift kit and my question is will it damage anything if I drive it a couple days before I send my pcm in to get the shift points put back to stock? I talked to the guy that tuned it and he said i would need a update. Should i not drive it at all or will it be ok? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I don't see why installing a Transgo shift kit would require any change to the tune. Primarily going from a stock converter to a high stall converter requires a tune.
BTW - The Transgo HD2 lets you choose how many washers (0,1,2,3) are placed into the 1-2 accumulator. More washers gives harder shifts. I would recommend having only one installed and an absolute max of 2 if you have a high stall converter. Trans guru PBA (Dana) repeatedly recommends no more than one. So ask your builder to install only one; it is relatively easy to change later.

Hard to say not knowing exactly what was changed. I prefer mine with the shift kit and the tune. I like firm shifts though.

Mine has both a shift kit and a tune but like mrveedit said, don't go ***** to the wall with the shift kit or it will be barking the tires at every part throttle shift and be extremely hard on things WOT.

Ok. I have a frost mail order tune on it now. If I can run both the tune and the kit I'll just leave it. I just wanted to make sure It wouldn't break my new rebuilt transmission. Thanks for the replys!

It probably won't damage it to drive it gingerly a little bit. The issue is whether Frost majorly bumped up the line pressure settings. The old rule is NOT to seriously increase line pressure beyond stock settings when running the shift kit.

I've kept my upped line pressure and went to a fully built unit with an HD2 shift kit. No issue. I did have to lower one upshift modifier table for the 1/2 shift but only in the low throttle area (think creeping through a parking lot) because it was just too hard of a shift. I went in and made a minor adjustment by about -20% and it did the trick. I've successfully run this tune in numerous units from stock to built, including my stock unit with 150k that's had the hell beat out of it that my buddy still drives daily. Trust me, you'll be fine.

Here's some extensive discussion of line pressure tuning with reference to the effect of shift kits in relation to it ...
