Default 4L80E swap experince come inside

What up guys,

I am trying to basically get a list together of parts and hear you guys experiences with a 4L80E swaps. I would like to know how difficult things were and how much your final cost for the swap was.

Unfortunately I am a LT1 guy with a T56, so I dont see or hear too many people doing these swaps anymore. So any input would be much appreciated!

We build a transmission conversion crossmember that allows you to bolt the 4L80E transmission up into the car, here is a link to it off of our website:

BMR Transmission Conversion Crossmember, 4L80E, LT1 (TCC008)

Unfortunately their isn't enough room to do a torque arm relocation crossmember for a 4L80E in a LT1 car so nobody builds one. This means that if you are planning on doing this swap you will want to plan on using a shorter style torque arm that either mounts to the chassis or the tunnel of the vehicle.

If there is any way we can help you out just let me know.

i didn't know the LT1 tunnel area was smaller and didn't allow for the relocation bracket...

Yeah there are definitely some differences between the LT1 and LS1 cars in that area and how the transmission crossmembers mount up to the chassis. It would be nice if there was enough room to be able to run a full length torque arm and torque arm relocation but there just isn't.

-153 tooth flexplate (internal or external balance dependent on your build) [SFI rated one is a good idea]
-4L80e converter with a custom front face to bolt to said 153 tooth flexplate
-Quality flexplate to crank and converter to flexplate bolts, I like ARP
-Some sort of trans cross member for the 4L80E (I have read a M6 cross member can work?)
-Relay mod to have the trans shift and what not off of the LT1 PCM
-Big *** trans cooler and lines
-New DS yoke for trans output
-Built 4L80e, obviously
-Center console from a 60e car and then all the required linkages
-Elongate the bracket mounting holes on shifter cable end at transmission for 80e

Otherwise, not much to crazy, you will need to trim the ears off the trans up front but thats it.

It's a pretty easy swap, I found everything I needed to know by just searching.

Thanks bro. Just the list I needed. I just didnt want to start a swap unless having every part listed. I did research and everybody's build was a tad different and didnt list specific parts that I needed to know about.

I can get free 4L80E and TH400 from a company that work on box trucks. And since my father in law build race trans and all other type of trans the build labor is free. His good friend here in St. Louis has built converters for over 40 years and I can get a billet triple clutch converter for $375 because thats where he gets his converters from. So hopefully at the end of the day it wont be overly expensive or over $800 total for me. Fingers crossed!

If you are thinking your car will run hard and you will race it often, I would highly suggest calling Jake and sourcing some billet shafts to replace stock stuff. I think he rates stock stuff to around 750hp, so something to think about.

Actually that is a good idea. I dont know how long it will take to get the bugs worked out and how long it will take for me to be comfortable driving it really hard (Plus how long the break in procedure will take). But I guess its best to say build it right the first time so that I have no worries.......
