Anybody ever had a new replacement flex plate hit the starter gear. I pulled a friends transmission to replace a cracked fp and the new one was a sfi approved one from Carquest and it was contacting the starter gear. I ended up grinding a little off the gear and all is fine but why did that happen?

 

Did you compare the new flex plate to the old one to verify that you were sold the correct one?
