Default 4L60E SmartTech forward clutch clearance

I'm using blue plates on a 4l60e build with a smarttech input drum, and have all clutch clearances where I want them....with the exception of the forward clutches, which have .015

I'm thinking that I should be shooting for .030-.035, but am not seeing any options for steels, apply plate, or pressure plate that will get me where I think that I need to have it.

From top to bottom, here's the stack that I'm using for mock up:

-.228 Pressure plate
-.071 Friction
-.088 Steel
-.071 Friction
-.088 Steel
-.071 Friction
-.088 Steel
-.071 Friction
-.088 Steel
-.071 Friction
-.088 Steel
-.069 Wavey plate
-.169 Apply plate

The .015 clearance that I'm measuring currently is with USED steels....when I replace them with new ones, the only option that I'm seeing available is for .090 steels....which will get me to a zero-clearance situation.

Any thoughts on how to solve this?

There are different sizes for the backing plate.

You have the biggest one (0.230).
There's also 0.193 and 0.160.

Hmmmm. I'll have to keep searching....just not seeing it available on the sites that I've found.

Thanks! :-)

Edit: Still not seeing it. Are you referring to the FORWARD clutch, or 3/4 pack?

Oops, I was referring to the 3-4 pack, but there are also different sizes for the forward clutch plate

Correct....but I'm already at the thinnest available. I'm wondering if I should be looking for different clutches for the forward pack?

There may be some thinner steels available for the forward clutch pack if you want to use the frictions you already have.

Which overrun and forward pistons are you using?
The Sonnax SmarTtech input drum uses their reinforcement ring and therefore cannot use the stock steel pistons.
IIRC Sonnax supplies a custom overrun piston and recommends either a old-style aluminum forward piston or their (expensive) billet forward piston.
Instead I used a custom billet overrun piston (available from FinishLine Transmissions) with a stock steel forward piston.
I never measured the forward/overrun clearance - it seemed to move plenty when I air tested it.

I'm using the sonnax billet piston, and reworked overrun setup. The only thing that I've not done yet, is pressure check it all. I suppose that the clearance might open up a bit once I've cycled it all with air a few times. I'll try that, and see what I come up with.
