This is a very common problem and can only be repaired by disassembling the trans to where the input clutch drum can in accessed. The 3rd clutch seal stops sealing from age and the trans falls out of gear when at a stop. When you apply the gas pedal and the car doesn’t move the RPM increases along with trans line pressure and the clutch applies with a bang. The good news is that TransGo makes a shift kit, (SK 4T65E), with an improved seal that eliminates the problem. The bad news is that you have to go so deep into the trans that if it has any miles on it at all it would be wise to have a complete rebuilt. Sorry.

the 4t65 is a very tricky transmission for first time builders..id recommend you take it to a good shop..before anything to take out the transmission you have to take all the suspension and chassis off aswell as hanging the rack & pinion and hanging the motor.. i wouldnt recommend doing it if you never messed with transmissions..good luck buddy
