Default 4l80e torque converter nightmare!! please help....

I'm in the process of swapping a 4l80e into my vehicle.

The problem im having is i cant get my fti converter to seat in the 4l80e the way it should. I'll try and post pictures. But any tips or methods that you guys have found would be great.

I did the 3 clicks and still it sticks out.

The converter is for a lt1 that was made to work with a ls1/4l80e i guess.

I sent it back to fti and asked them to swap it out with the proper one. But they sent me back the same one with the spacer welded to the pilot and what looks to be a different input shaft snout (no idea the tech name)

Basically on tranny side. No matter what i do there's a 1 1/2 inch gap between converter and transmission side.

Please help me out here guys. Any advice would be great. Ill post pics if i can figure it out. I've been calling fti all day. But im sure they closed early with the holidays.

This is the farthest ive been able to drop it down. There's still about a solid inch gap tranny side. I've never installed a aftermarket converter before so i have no idea what normal here.

From what I remember, my converter measured about 1 1/8" (face of mounting flange to face of bellhousing.
The flexplate was out from the block mounting surface about 1" which gave me 1/8" clearance between the flexplate and converter. Perfect.
How far out does the LT1 flexplate stick out?

It looks like you need the .400" crankshaft spacer. 12563532

I mounted it and was left with 1/8 if that between flex plate and converter. Converter spun freely before bolting it to flex plate. Just worried about tranny side. I'm not a rich man. So to do things twice would most likely mean the wife will kick me out of the house :p

The LT and LS style of 4l80 should not matter for your purposes. If this is bolting on an LT1, you will need the short pilot. It should only extend about .250 past the converter pad. If you have a pilot extender welded on top of .250 to make it more like the LS .600, you could have issues with the converter bottoming out against your crank. Kind of late to check now. Based on the pic, the converter is stabbed all the way with over an inch of bellhousing to pad distance.
