electronic shift kit yay or nay
I would suggest installing the Sonnax .490 boost valve (# 4L60E-LB1) which is trivial after dropping the pan. That by itself will tighten all shifts and likely improve the life of the trans.
So, I would say Nay, but then I am comfortable with everything related to transmissions and PCM tuning.
As mentioned above you can have that kind of stuff done as part of a full tune which will also add a small amount of horsepower and throttle response (more power if you have some mods).
If the budget is tight put the money towards either a Trans Go HD2 kit ( I avoid B&M kits) or comparable or a good mail order tune. Even just the boost valve mentioned above will help. Just depends how mechanically inclined with auto transmissions you are.

I wont say how much because that will be up to you and the tuners comfort level , I always take conservative swipes at it and drive it long enough to adapt before tweaking further using the multiply function adjusting 5% at a time in only the cells you would use when driving aggressively ( x0.95 on shift times or x1.05 on pressures)

While it does firm up shifts a bit, it is only a little.
As mentioned, a tuner can tighten the shifts for you.
Or, if you decide to install a shift kit, you already have the best boost valve available.
