4l65 in 2004 Corvette
Long story short, the guy gives me a song and dance, I take the car to another shop, they pull the tranny and it was a 4l60e, not the 4l65e the paper work claimed.
Had the tranny rebuilt the right way for 4K and am going after the original shop. My build sheet shows an 4l60e but Hot Rod magazine says differently http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/transmi...transmissions/
I was told by a local chevy dealer that the corvette used the insides of the 4l65e until 2004 but it was re-designated the 4l65e in the 2005 models. Any feedback would be appreciated.
If your SPID (Service Parts Identification) Sticker states M30....You have a 4L60E. M32....4L65E.

Interesting. I found it strange that my chevy dealership said that that late model 2004 should have had the 4l65e as does hot rod magazine.
As one of the 4L65E differences was a hardened 300mm input shaft, that could not apply to a C5.
The only other improvements in the 4L65E are 7 frictions for the 3/4 clutch and 5 pinion planetaries. Sorry, I doubt GM bothered to update the pre-LS 298mm 4L60E with those parts.
Other improvement introduced in 2003, such as a hardened sun shell were used in all 4L60E and 4L65E.
I'm pretty sure all the pro builders here will tell you the 5-pinion planetaries are not worth it, at least not below 600HP. The 7 friction 3/4 clutch is a nice improvement, but a 7 or 8 friction 3/4 clutch should be installed in every 4L60E or 4L65E rebuild.
Show me an SPID with LS1 & M32...Then we can talk about this.
If it states M30...Your car had a 4L60E from the factory.
