Default 04 trailblazer 4l60e pump

I have a 04 trailblazer with the 4l60e. It has 70,000 miles on it and i took off from the red light like normal and the transmission just quit. costed into parking lot engine stayed running. It would shift into all of the gear but would not move it was like it was in neutral in all gears. I towed it home and pull the transmission lines and it just dripped fluid with running so im guessing the pump is bad. I pulled the transmission but havent had a chance to check the pump for broken vanes. I read that is a common problem. I see 4l60e is a pump eater is their a upgraded pump out there? also should i change the torque converter also?

Did you check the fluid level before you pulled the trans?

If indeed the pump failed and chewed up a lot of metal, you will need to get the trans rebuilt to clean it out and either replace the converter or send it to a company that can open it for cleaning and re-weld back.
A total pump failure is usually caused by a broken pump rotor. GM made some improvements to the pump, but none after '04 that I know of.
I suspect many pump failure are due to a previous converter swap that was not done as carefully as it should be.
Sure, there are pump rotor failures, but not very common.
If you want the best pump rotor, contact FinishLine Transmissions for a billet one.

This is my mothers daily driver so I dont want to take any chances with her braking down. So im thinking of just getting a built transmission with a good warranty. I dont trust any of my local transmission shops. I have seen many people ripped off by them. I also figure one built performance will hold up over a stock one. this truck has been babied and has had a fluid and filter change at 50,000 miles from gm. I dont need one that will hold up to 1,000 hp but I want one that has all the down flaws upgraded. I was looking at finish line transmissions but cant find a warranty info. also dont know if i have to pay for return of the core. I was looking at monster transmissions because of the 3 year warranty, But see about 50% of the reviews say there warranty is worth less.

As an IT guy I determined several years ago the Monster Transmission was hosting and controlling a "review site" which looked independent, but obviously was not; it was on the same server as their website. And of course only very good reviews, not a single bad one. After I documented that on various forums, they moved their "review" site to a different server so that their deceit was not so obvious. I have only read the worst reviews of them here.

On the other (high) end of the ethical and quality scale is FinishLine Transmissions. Don't worry about their official warranty as they provide top quality and service. There is only praise for them here.

To piggyback on mrvedit, I read many forums when I was rebuilding my transmission and
Monster Transmissions has built quite the, ummm, "reputation" on the Internet if you do a little googling.

sounds exactly like what happened to my trans last November. Haven't pulled it out yet, but expecting a broken pump too.

Sounds like it broke a pump rotor...

Were there any check engine lights? Codes? Anything that would command max line pressure? It could have just been a weak rotor, but they usually have help from a pressure spike of some sort. The bottom line is that the factory pump rotors, especially the 13 vane rotors, can be a problem area.

TCS makes a very nice billet steel rotor that I use on anything of a performance nature.
