Default Which 4l60e's had removable Bells?

I'm checking to confirm, is it true all 60e's have a removable bellhousing on 98 and up? Or was it only the non truck versions?

If you could leave me a list of years t he vehicle was made with 60e with removable bellhousing please that would be helpful!

Also do th400/350s have the same inner housing bolt pattern? IE bolting a TH bellhousing on 60e?

That's about right. They started changing the bellhousing somewhere between 96-98. mrvedit is really good with the differences between years. My '96 was all a single piece.

Yes, I'm pretty sure all '98+ 4L60E have a removable bell housing.
I doubt a TH400/TH350 bell housing would fit for a variety of reasons.

What you are trying to accomplish?

The S-10's got the split bellhousing starting in '96.

A TH350 or TH400 will bolt up to an LS engine just fine. You will just have 5 bell housing bolts instead of 6. The LS engines moved the middle bolt on the driver's side to the top. There isn't a bolt hole at the top of a 350 or 400 bellhousing.

Now, as far as bolting a 350 or 400 converter to the LS flex plate, it definitely can be done, but I'm pretty sure you need a custom converter with the larger 300mm converter bolt pattern. I believe there is a spacing issue as well. But guys do it all the time, so it is possible...

Here is straight from the "Green" ATSG 4L60e/4l65e update book:

"Beginning at the start of production for 1996 models, some 4L60-E transmissions were built with a bolt-on bellhousing. The 4.3L V6 engine is the only one to receive the bolt-on bellhousing for 1996 models, and will be expanded to most other engine sizes for 1997."

FYI - the bellhousing bolts require a "Torx Plus 50-IP" bit to remove, if not used there is a strong chance of stripping it.

What kind of power levels are you shooting for? A 4L80 might be a better choice if you are planning for upgrades in the future..

Good point on the TP50 bit. I see guys trying to pull these with a standard Torx all the time. Not a good outcome usually...
