limp mode and converter
Mine used to enter limp mode due to unexpected slip with the stall converter. Going up hills the trans would shift and the stall would keep the RPMs from dropping, so the PCM triggered limp mode because it thought the trans was slipping severely.
When my car was in this particular limp mode it would have 2nd and 3rd and reverse. It would start in 2nd and shift violently to 3rd, but never lock up or go to 4th.
It would not under any circumstances go to first gear. Not manually and not with WOT at a very low speed.
If I pulled the car over, turned the key off for about 10 seconds, and restarted it would return to normal operation until limp mode was triggered again.
The problem was solved by turning off the fault code with EFI Live.
