Th400 speedometer removal

Hi guys have not posted in a great wail. I am currently doing a th400 swap on my F body. I want to remove the speedometer. Can I do that and just place a plug? Will the internal speedo gear hang loose or even come off internally during operation?

You don't have to remove the gear you can just plug it. IF you do want to remove the gear(plastic one) however all you have to do is pull the tail housing to get it off.

Thanks. I was worried the internal gear would come loose and cause damage.
