Default No Lights on Gear selector? Any ideas?

I was driving my car for the first time at night last night and I realized that there are no lights on the gear selector. Any Ideas on what the problem could be interested in knowing fast so I can fix the problem.

Blown out bulb.
Take the coin holder out of the center console and remove the two screws under it, pull the console insert up enough to look under it, you should be able to see and replace the bulb without taking the shift **** off.

Sometimes the bulb will fall out of the holder. Either way, take the console off and check the bulb

Sounds like you blew a clutch pack, gotta pull your trans and get a remanufactured unit. j/k, get a new light bulb for it.

autozone has the bulbs. it's something like #74 or 76 or something. they are hard to get out the holder but a new one will snap right in

I have the same problem and I have the console out. How the hell do you get the bulb out of the damn holder? That little sucker is in there. Is there a trick to it?

Well I got it out but I broke the bulb in the process so I just grabbed the filament with some pliars and pulled it out. The replacement bulb you need is a #73. I got mine at advance auto parts, 2 of them for $2.00 and it works now. Thanks

Strange thing happened on my A4 gear selector tonight. Turned the car on and was starting to drive like normal, then realized there was no light on the gear selector (but since it snaps into Drive anyway, I usually just feel it). I was like great, the light is out. Then went to get gas, after turning it back on, lo and behold the light on the selector was on again.
What could possibly cause this? Every other light on the interior of the car was fine otherwise, this was the only one which went out during that one drive. Now I'll be keeping an eye on it each time I drive to see if it happens again.
