Default Torn on stall choice for DD G8 GT

I need some help trying to decide which stall to put in my G8. The car is getting a new LS3 crate motor and it's not going to cost me anything extra labor wise to throw a stall in it. For now, the LS3 will remain stock outside of CAI and LT's. Once the warranty is up on the new motor, I plan on swapping the cam and mill/port the heads but that is 1-2 years down the road. The car is my DD but I work from home so I rarely drive more than 5 miles a day taking the kiddos to school and daycare. I would like it to keep some street manners in case I take another job where I have to start making a daily commute.

I'm trying to decide between the Circle D 278mm HP 3200 or a Yank SS3600. I went ahead and picked up a 3.27 diff from a Camaro to help get it moving but just don't want the car to be a total dog around town. I might take it to the track a couple times a year so not worried about getting every last bit of 60 ft or ET out of it. On the other hand, it's only a $250 difference between converters and I'd hate to leave some performance on the table for $250.

i have a circle d 3800 stall and its very streetable. just have the lockup point lowered to a speed you normally cruise at (mine is at 45).

Doesn't a G8 have a 6L80 trans?
That might affect what people recommend.

Yes its a 6l80. With a 3200 I would expect to see 1.70 short times which is pretty decent.

A G8 with the 6l80e doesn't need as high of a stall speed as f-bodies because the gap between gear ratios is less. A lot of G8 guys recommend 2800-3200.

Can't go wrong with either Circle D or Yank... both are quality pieces.

If your thinking of a yank I'd give the owner Dave a call. He is super helpful and knowledgeable. I have a yank ss4000 and thought maybe I needed a restall to higher, he not only confirmed I have the right converter but gave me some launching tips and a few recommendations for my setup

I was thinking the same thing. However the gap between 1st (4.03) and 2nd (2.36) is huge; rest are very tight.
If it were me, I would consider a 3.73 or 4.11 rear and figure out how to get rid of 1st gear entirely. That would give you an excellent "1st" gear start (2.36 x 4.11) and the 2 overdrive ratios would still give low revving on the highway.
A 3200 stall would be plenty with such a setup.

Buddy has an ss3200 in a cammed g8. On the street it's nice, it hits good out of the hole, pulls strong through all the gears....just a good overall street setup. At the track it cuts 1.70 60fts which is again very respectable. Not gonna win any races against fbodies with 4k converters cause those can dip much lower then 1.70, but for the intended prupose it works well.

Yep, spoke with Dave yesterday afternoon and he recommended the PAS 3400. Said with my car being NA, it will run tight like a SS3200 but hits harder and will flash a little higher at the track if I understood him correctly. He felt it was kind of a best of both worlds between the SS3200 and 3600 with my setup and knowing I'm putting a cam in it in the near future.
