Default What to do for a shifter in a hotrod swap?

I want to put an LQ4 with a 4l60e into an older hot rod. What have you guys done for shifter controls? I really don't want to use a column shifter and I want it to looks smooth.

Is something like a dash switch setup available/possible like the new dodge truck dials?

Something way out there that I haven't done any real investigation on is using a pad like an android mounted in the dash to function as gauges and maybe control the tranny using that. Am I way out there?

The 4L60E needs a mechanical shifter cable connected to it. Various B&M shifters work well.

My god, replacing an absolutely reliable shift lever with a crazy complex mechanical and electronic system. Can't wait until an electrical hiccup puts the trans into Park on the highway.

Remind me of this story:
A young driver thinks that "D" is for "Drag", "L" is for "Leap" and "N" is for "Nothing". Then while racing another car on the highway he shifts into "R" for "Race" (or "P" for "Pass"). Of course pressing the wrong button might have the same effect.
