Default 2000 lq4 4l80e flexplate question

whats the general concensus on the flexplate.

Goal is 700whp turbo

I picked up an lq4 with 80e trans complete.

goal for the car is 99% daily with occasional (like 1-3 track a year)
drag - but would like to try auto cross.

its an early lq4 with a long crank and im curious which flex plate to use?

can stock handle 700whp?

or do i need to upgade it?

I cant seem to find stock limits.

I would HIGHLY recommend a SFI cert. flexplate vs. the stock one for that kind of power. Since you have the long crank make sure you get the flat flexplate!

We have the one piece billet Meziere flexplates in stock that are top of line. You can view them in the link below.

I have been curious about this too. Seems most of the cheaper ones, have basically a bad rep for cracking as well, even though they are sfi cert. Which makes me think, stay stock, or buy some crazy expensive plate imo. IDK.

The second problem is some kind of blanket/sfi bellhousing. I dont see much for a 80e, even though, this seems to be the "go to" trans now.

We only carry the very best products and for that reason the Meziere plates are the only flexplates we carry. You should be able to pick up a SFI certified plate off of Summit or Jegs that fits your budget a little better.

I use the stock flexplate and it works fine with a turbo car.

That being said, if you ever plan to actually race in a class that is picky in Tech, its best to swap flexplates while the engine and trans are still out.

no plans to race in a class at all. If i do end up going to track it, its just for fun.

whats the cause of flexplate failure? i dont plan to spin it past 6200rpm.

if im going to be spending 450+ for a flexplate i would rather just sell this engine and get 5.3 that way i have a wider selection later down the line.

Try searching for a small or big block chevy LT style 168 tooth flexplate. that should yield plenty of flexplates in your price range.
Just make sure it has the large GM converter bolt circle to fit the 4L80 converter bolt circle.

You just need a flat flexplate for the long crank.
When they switched to the shorter crank in the 6.0, they used the exact same flexplate, but added a .4" thick spacer in between the crank and flexplate to make up the difference.

The LS crank pattern is different from SBC. In our experience the small block flex plate and crank is also timed where the LS is not. In my opinion you cannot run a small block chevy flex plate on an LS without machine work. Meziere may make a custom one that we don't know about for the long crank motors, but that's such a niche market I would doubt it. We have not seen any SFI certified flex plates for the long crank ls motors. Also, the BBC cranks from my experience have had a larger centering lip outer diameter, so that flex plate will not work with the LS. The SBC's centering lip is a match to the LS. Correct me if I'm wrong, but just don't want to add confusion to an already confusing subject.

i'm not sure about power, maybe 450 wheel?
it's a 69mm gt45 at ~10psi on a cammed 5.3.
it'll blow the 255/60-15s off when you romp it at 60mph. it's crazy fun.

I used a chevrolet performance parts 3000/3400 stall converter. it was all I could afford at the time. it seems fine for my power level.

oh i was hopping a lot closer to my goal.
but yea time to raise up those boost.

my old set up stock unopened handled 17-20 psi as a daily
i was extremely impressed.

hmm seems like a lot of 1 off parts for the long crank.

im considering switching engine or maybe swapping crank.

will a short crank be a straight swap? I would think the answer is yes.

its looking like its better to swap crank(or engine) so its cheaper down the line if i change my setup.

yeah there are better budget options for flexplates for the regular cranks.
I've got a six liter on the back burner. hoping to get in the 9's with it.
