Angry late 4gen fbird 4l60e problem in D

Hi,

I need help for my LS1 firebird (2000).
Problem: my engine stops when I break.
- it happens when:
- my engine is warm
- the rpm was more than 1000 before the breaking
- the transmission is in D
- i can avoid this if i set the transmission to N before i start to break.
- it happens very frequently now (at every 2nd red lamp)
- i can't reproduce it when my trans in 3

Can you verify if this is when TCC is locked up? your TCC valve could be sticking. The valve is pretty simple to replace, or just change maybe the seals on the valve.

I think, I will exchange the full valve body to a remanufactured one (I saw some on ebay). Is it a good idea? My car has 160.000 miles. I used it on high ways.

I'd say that's unnecessary. Maybe swap out the seals and separator plate. The PWM valve is in the valve body, but the actual TCC valve is in the pump but accusable from below. The transgo HD2 kit will include a lot of upgrades as well as include all the required seals, gaskets, and new separator plate, and filter. The only thing it won't include is a new TCC valve and seals. I'd recommend the Sonnax TCC valve.

Right I don't think the problem is in the valve body. It is either the main TCC solenoid bolted into the pump (and part of the harness) or the converter itself has gone bad.
A separate TCC solenoid that you wire into the harness shouldn't be hard to find; I think the 700R4 used the same one. This looks like the right one for $15:

You can simply splice it in - nothing fancy because ATF does not hurt exposed wiring.

(I found it by searching for "4l60e tcc solenoid")

Of course at 160K miles you might consider a new harness which includes the TCC solenoid for $35, partly to be sure your harness doesn't have a short. Replacing the harness typically requires removing the 1-2 accumulator housing, the Pressure Control Solenoid and then unsnapping the harness connector.

Thanks for everybody. At first, I order a new cable with solenoid, and I hope it will fix it.

Result: I didn't touch the transmission, I exchanged the EGR and the problem solved.. insane.

Thanks for the update.
It is always interesting to see how many suspected transmission problems are due to an engine/sensor problem.

It did sound like your TCC was sticking, but obviously it was not in this case.
Anyway, glad you figured it out.
