Which Trans. 4 '50 Truck My son & i are building a '50 Chevy 3100 truck, we plan on using a LS2 or LS3 engine. Which transmission would be recommended, have 10 bolt rear with 3.42 gear, could change to 3.73. I've read for several hours here & i don't want to use the 6l80.
Have access to 700R4, how does this compare to the 4L80E?

I just put an 80E in my nova.
The 80E is a big trans. I'm pretty hard on trans's so I went with the HD trans.
I probably could have gotten away with a BUILT 4L70E (electronic 700) at my power level but the 80E is much stronger in stock form.
What is your intent for this truck?
The pro's will chime in. I just figured I'd start.

Forgot to mention i have a T350 in the shop w/BTE converter i removed from my '70 Nova footbrake drag car. Wouldn't have o.d., but wouldn't have to spend the money for another trans either. Also, wouldn't require any wiring other than speedometer, i think?

Are you using a mechanical or electronic speedometer?
A matching trans will simplify hooking up to the speedometer.
If electronic speedometer, a junk yard 4L80E might be all you need.
If mechanical speedometer, the TH350 might be fine if you can live without OD.

Unless your plan is long interstate highway trips,go with the TH350 you already have.You will have plenty of opportunity to spend the cash you saved for an OD trans on other parts of your build.Yes,that is a 53 GMC in my avatar,6.0 and TH400 going into that one...
