Default Controlling newer 4L80 with PCM

Looking at a newer 2009 model 4L80 for a swap. They were controlled by separate controllers from the engine. My question is, can I control it like the older models with the PCM controlling both? Thanks

Choose your ECM and go. In 2009 GM was using a T42 transmission controller communicating via CAN BUS with an E38 ECM. A E38 by itself cannot control a 4L80e. T42's are plentiful in the junk yard and can be found on many front wheel drive vehicles. With the correct harness, an older ECM can also control a 4L80e on its own but the older ECMs also have their drawbacks.

I have an 0411 PCM. Will this control the newer 4L80E?

I'm not aware of the '09+ 4L80E being electrically different from earlier ones.
Hopefully one of the 4L80E experts can confirm or correct that.

However the '09+ 4L60E/4L70E are electrically incompatible with earlier ones.

I was thinking the 09 was controlled by separate computer from the engine. Wasn't sure if my 0411 PCM would control it or not? Not sure if it required the T42 computer for the newer model 4l80e.

Does anyone have a picture of an 09 4l80 so I can see the plug-in connection. I bought a harness with a 4l80 plug in as long as the newer style 4l80 the same I will just try it

Your 0411 ECM will control a 4L60E / 4L80E on its own without an additional trans controller. What engine do you have? Using a 0411 requires the less desirable 24x reluctor.

I have an 04 LQ9, it's pretty much put together. I went ahead and bought the 09 4l80. Going to put new seals, filter and shift kit. It has the same electrical plug as all the other 4l80's do.
