Default 4L60E Fluid flush question

So my SS as it sits has around 69K on it. I have owned it for almost 5 years. The only thing I haven't done to it is have the transmission serviced. I called the dealer that is literally right across the street from my house and they said that they flush the system out but don't change the filter but flush it. Is that a common thing??? I am a little leary about that. Would like peoples thoughts on it. Thanks.

Yes its common and no I wouldnt pay to have it done. I prefer an old pan drop and filter + 6 quarts. It should be fairly clean with that low of mileage.

IMO I would leave it alone if it's not giving you an issues. I've seen more problems caused by flushing the unit than it solves, myself included.

same opinion as above , do not flush a properly working trans , do pan drops and filter changes vs pushing any debris present throughout the trans ( possibly into bad places) I also lost a trans 20 years ago in a different platform a week after a flush , this was on a 75k mile BMW my wife had that had no trans issues but we did it as preventive , not a good idea.

If you had a trans acting badly that had already had pan drops and filter changes and solenoids replaced with no change a flush would be worth trying as a last resort if your ready to rebuild anyway.

Regardless of miles you have 17 years of sediment hanging out in low pressure areas in your trans that is going to be forced through your internal workings=recipe for disaster.

As with the above posts,NEVER do a 'flush' on a good trans, drop pan-change filter-add fluid to proper level. I work part-time at a Tuffy automotive center,we avoid recommending a 'flush',if there's something wrong with the trans a flush will not cure it.

the previous owner told me the he thinks the guy who he bought it off of changed the fluid at 30K, but there is no documentation or paperwork to go by.

Being a "maintenance freak", I used to drop the pan, and swap in a new filter, and 5 qts. of fresh fluid every other year, on the '96 Z/28 I owned for 19 years and 78,000 miles. It ran quite well....

^^^^^yes!!! never flush, and who the *** would change the fluid and not the filter. I would have asked the service guy if he changes his underwear but doesn't bother washing his nasty ***. Anyway go ahead a drop the pan, change the filter and refill it. That is the correct way. The stealership probably wants 150 bucks to do that.

In my opinion its easier to just drop the pan and change the filter along with the fluid.

However, if you must flush it or feel that it is indeed necessary do not pay to have it done. Do the 2 bucket method.

Disconnect cooler lines from radiator
New 5 gallon bucket of fluid from parts store goes into return line of trans
Empty 5 gallon bucked goes under the cooler feed line.
Turn the car on and watch it flush itself

Ive done this a few times on various cars with good results. But a regular fluid and filter change is more than fine.
