Default 298mm compatability with 03 4l60e

Have a 2003 Silverado 4.8 2wd. trans started dying so got a low mile used one.

Once my old stocker was taken out discover it doesn't match this new one. Now after some research I see I have a 300mm unit with a 12 oclock bolt hole. this other unit does NOT have a bolt hole on top and has a 298mm shaft. it also has the ID tag '2SHO' on top, but can not find anything to decode that.

q#1 - can this unit even be used in my truck?
q#2 - if yes, then how? Adapter/spacer? What is needed?

Thanks!

With an '03 Silverado you will be best to use the same style 4L60 transmission that came with the vehicle.

Utilizing the "LT" style 4L60 would take a new flexplate, and at least an LT style converter.

Really though, I am not sure if all of the electrical connectors are the same.

Keeping the LS style 4L60 in there is the easiest route.

You need a Crank Spacer like this....http://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-Transmiss...-/272644954759

And Re-drill the Flexplate for the 10.75" torque converter bolt pattern on the 298mm converter, RE-DRILL it! Do Not hack up your Flexplate by slotting the hole (I hate that!)

The 298mm trans you have is electrically compatible with your truck, 2SHO means it's from a 2002 S-10.

Just to be clear, you also need an LT-syle converter.
I always agree with Clinebarger because he is a pro and I learn from him.
We should always appreciate it when after working on transmissions all day he still has the time/energy and enthusiasm to answer transmission questions.

While the "2SHO" only means to me that it is a 2002 trans, the "PWM" on the pump indicates it is at least a 1996 and therefore electrically compatible with any LS1 PCM.

Default 05 GMC Canyon 3.5l I5 4x4

I have a similar situation that I’m curious on how to fix. I also purchased a 298mm 4L60E. Of course mine was a 300mm. Everything hooked up as if it was identical until I got to the input shaft. Swapped the tail housing, swapped the bell housing, electrical hooked up, transmission lines hook up.

What I’m trying to figure out now is what 298mm converter to purchase, Is redrilling the spacer mandatory because there is no converter that will line up the same bolt holes?

And then a spacer is necessary I believe, will this spacer still allow everything to fit in the bell housing? And what spacer to I track down?

thank you!!!!

Why make it more difficult that it needs to be? Any GMT 800 full sized vehicle came with the 300 mm as far as I know, even the V6 (my 99 Silverado NBS V6 had a 300 mm). Besides a transmission from your Colorado series. There's literally thousands of them out there. Get the right transmission.

The 298 mm I think lacked an extra clutch plate somewhere and had a bit weaker torque converter clutch or something like that. And they were a bit shorter overall, which may or may not be an issue.

You can install but will need to stay with the 298 bell and use the 298 converter , Use a crank spacer on the converter and may have to elogate the converter bolt holes a little , Personally I would just get the 300mm unit that goes in it, But we all have what we have, But those thinsg are a must. You wont have top cenetr bolt but that is fine no differenet than putting a 400 behind an LS1 just short a bolt .
