Default Is ss3600 too much for a DD ?

Gentlemen,

Yank rep told me 2600 recommended for bone A4 TA, with 3200 max. Others say 3600. Other posted says ss3600. I will be using nitto 275's on rear. Opinions please.

It's not to much stall for a LS1 F-Body, But you will definitely need a good auxiliary trans cooler for any converter over 3,000 stall.

You didn't say exactly what you do with your car other than you daily drive it.....

I got it about 2 years ago. Came with Volant and flow master cat back. I am considering have the rear wheels widened from 17x9 to 17x11, for traction issues. I will not be doing any other performance mods for the foreseeable future. I prefer to not use DRs.

If your going to go through the trouble of installing a converter in your car....Get a 9.5" 3600 Converter!

On the other hand......If you depend on your car to get to work everyday, It would be wise to leave it alone!

I strongly suggest that you find some people in your area with stalled autos and ride along/drive the cars to see what you think. I'd also recommend looking at YouTube videos to get a feel for the driving characteristics and RPMs of some converters. Everyone has different tolerance levels so it's hard to say how much converter you could live with and the last thing you want to do is push the envelope too far with the car you daily drive every day.

About a decade ago I use to daily drive an f-body with a SS3600 and I liked it but my exhaust wasn't overly loud which helped and I was a teenager and had a higher level of toleration back then. I think the SS3600 is the bee's knees but I don't think I would want it in my daily driver now but that's just me. I've driven an f-body with the SS3200 and you literally barely know the thing is there until you get into it and I think that converter would be a great daily driver converter.

I'll add to what was mentioned earlier that gear ratio, tire diameter will also play a part on how the converter "feels" to someone.

I.E., 2.73's will/could feel very loose compared to the same converter with 3.73's
Perfect example is my son now has my th 350 and 8" treemaster converter in his Malibu .
He has 3.42's and I have 4.30's.
Same 28" diameter tires and 406 ci engines.
It very noticeable to the ear that it takes more throttle to move along then it does with my car.
Wot is the same.

The SS3600 is the most popular converter on this forum for a number of reasons. It has good driveability for everyday use, hits hard for good launches, and is a well-made quality unit.

I've daily driven mine for 10 years, and a TCI 3000 for three years before that which performed the same. The SS3600 or SS3200 converter would make for good daily driving; then there are offerings from Circle D and other manufacturers that also fit the bill.

I've had my ss3600 stall in my car for 70k miles now and never had a problem! I think it's perfect for a dd. It drives good and hits pretty hard. Kind of wish I went to a 4000 stall. I wouldn't go any smaller then a 3600 trust me and all the other members!

It really depends on your tolerance. The older I get, the less I like to daily drive my bone stock 2000 SS. It is louder, harder to steer and significantly less comfortable than my newer vehicles. Thus, there is no way I'd want to drive a SS3600 daily. Other people can "easily" daily drive vehicles with dual exhaust, big stalls, etc. I agree with the others that suggested riding in another vehicle with a stall prior to installing one.

I have had my SS3600 in for a little over a year. I barely notice it when driving like a normal person, but I have 3.73 rear gears too. If you have 3.23's I'd say go for it, but if you had 2.73's it might be a bit much. I previously had a generic 2800 stall and in daily driving there is hardly any difference.

Too many threads on this topic from the OP already, no need to have two of them active at the same time.... https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...00-pt4000.html
