Default 4L60E do you think this build will last?

Hello All,

Thanks for taking the time to read this! Info on ride 05 Tahoe 2WD 4.8 125k miles. My tranny just went out and I bought this as a replacement. In my mind if I bought a raced out high horse power 4L60E it wouldn't get as much ware of experience such harsh conditions, thus lasting me a long long time. Info on my driving, I do mostly highway to and from work, but I like to step on it while city driving and I do some off roading as well. Paid $1340 shipped from:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/4L65E-4L60E-...-/263052009021

The specs as followed......

RAYBESTOS Z PACK CLUTCHES AND NEW KOLENE STEELS

WIDE ALTO ENERGY BAND

BEAST HARDENED SHELL

VETTE SERVO

500 BOOST VALVE KIT

11 VANE PUMP KIT WITH HD ROTOR

NEW HD CONVERTOR (2000 STALL IF NEEDED)

B&M MATCHED WITH TRANSGO SHIFT KIT

Thanks for any input!

That is a question for before you buy....

Z-Pack is a joke, A stock 6-clutch set-up is better.

WIDE ALTO ENERGY BAND, If a new Reverse Input Drum was used you will probably be OK, The stock Borg Warner Band is a very nice piece.

BEAST HARDENED SHELL, If the run-out was checked & it passed.....Good, If not....You would have been better off with a New Delco Shell.

VETTE SERVO, No problem with this.

500 BOOST VALVE KIT, If it's a Trans-Go Boost Valve.....I hope it was checked for being machined correctly.

11 VANE PUMP KIT WITH HD ROTOR, They come in 7, 10, & 13 Vane variations, A stock 13 Vane Rotor would be fine for the application.

B&M MATCHED WITH TRANSGO SHIFT KIT??.....What?

Let us know how it goes. I thought about getting that same one a while ago, Instead opted to get my stock unit rebuilt. Mine went out at 180k miles. I'm at 220k miles now with a minor leak. Pulling it out soon to inspect it. BTW I paid 1k for mine.

Well I got the trans in and the main harness connector had missing tabs so when I filled the tranny up it was leaking. I had to send it back so they do keep there word no hassle warranty. I should be getting the replacement back. I will update once the new one is in and running.

I was thinking the same thing, then I heard that a 4L80 behind a 4.8L isn't going to work as the 4.8 doesn't have much HP to sync ????

It was in my 06' Express van.
It was by no means a rocket ship.
Not the trans fault.

Read somewhere that the first gear sucks.
*4l80e 2.75 gear set*
Is MPG the same?
Any issues?

Have you ever driven a 4.8L with a 4L60e?

Again, thank you for taken your time to reply!

No. I have a astro van with a 4.3 and a 60e and a S10 4.3/60e and they're ok.
It helps with the 3.06 1st gear vs the 2.48 1st with the 80.

The Z-Pak is a concern, but the description "and new Kolene Steels" is inconsistent because the Z-pak doesn't use separate steels. Hopefully the trans was built with a High Energy 7 friction clutch which would use steels.
Also, there is no 11-vane pump. There are 10-vane and 13-vane pumps.
Also, there is no HD rotor - there are stock and very expensive billet rotors; doubt it uses the latter.
Sounds like a 10+ year old type rebuild; better parts are available, especially the many improvements made by Sonnax.

Should say "needs" one.
At least in my work van.

The OP doesn't need a 4L80E, A 4L60E built for his needs will serve him well.

Never told him to go 80E.
Just gave him my opinion/experience on the 4.8/80e combo.

I wasn't calling you out brother, It just seems weird that some cars around here could actually use a 4L80E & get told to buy a Level LXXXVIII 4L60E, But somehow a 4L80E gets mentioned on a thread about a stock 4.8L Tahoe.
