Default almost 5 vs 8?

last year I drained and filled my trans fluid, almost 5 quarts came out, I always drain into a big plastic pan and then dump that into used oil containers to see how much trans fluid came out so I can replace the exact amount. ( I always check the level after though to verify) did it again this year (had to replace my trans gasket and dispstick tube seal) and now I got almost 8 quarts out. Don't know if it makes a difference or not, but last year my car sat for about 2 1/2 months, so far this year it has sat almost 6 months before I drained it.

The trans and converter together hold 12-13 quarts; some parts of the trans will drain very slowly into the pan. Your experience sounds typical.
