Default 4l80 questions

Hey guys, I found a 4l80e just down the block from me for $300 to go in my camaro. My problems are:

1. Its a 4x4 unit.

2. I'm shooting for right around 1000rwhp

I've been doing a bit of reading for the last hour on what to do and how to change the tail shaft to a 2wd unit and it seems the trans has to be taken apart to do that so it really shouldn't be an issue since I'm probably going to end up doing a rebuild, which leads me into the next issue... Since I'm looking to put 1000rwhp through it, what kind of rebuild kits should I be looking at? I have seen that just a shift kit will help it hold roughly 700-800hp on stock internals and from then on i should be looking into billet hard parts and such. Is there any kits available that would have everything I need?

I'd say billet hard parts a must at that level.

I was actually just there, i believe a lvl 4 kit would have everything i need.

ck performance is another good source of parts.

If you can find a copy of the Cliff McCormick 4L80E rebuild book I found it to be very helpful. Lots of good pictures which I needed...lol

Depending on the year of the unit.....It may not have a Output Speed Sensor reluctor wheel on the Output Carrier, Sonnax sells replacement reluctors.

There are a lot of 2 wd cores around, and later units, I would look for those.
As said, the 4wd units don't have the speed sensor rel., if you forget to install it, it wont shift with the controller.
