Trans temp sender location

I just got a cast aluminum pan to put on my 4l85e (97 and needs design trans) I want to know where is the best place to put the temp sensor is in the pan?

I imagine anywhere since it's just a reasovoir. The 80e has it just dangling in the harness. Put it low and a place where it clears a pan bolt
I installed one on my Glide and put it facing forward on the passenger side

Anyone who is considering doing this should look at getting a deeper pan also since you have to take it off to mount the sending unit.

My 4l60e has a silverado 1500 pan and filter on it. It's bigger and holds more fluid than the ones that come on the 4th gen f-body's.

No it's a sending unit from an Autometer 4957 trans temp gauge. It's a shallow Hughs pan because the car is lowered.
I'd like to stay away from the sides of the pan because the headers are kind of close.

Either the front or back, just make sure it clears on both the inside and outside when bolted up.

It'll protrude inside the pan nearly an inch so before you drill a hole make sure it'll work.
