i am running a TH400 with 3.73s and drive 70-75 on the freeway and the street all the time. motor is at 3,800 and sounds nice on the freeway and stays in its power band in case i need to pass someone up. i will be installing 4.10s soon, so now the rpms should be over 4k but that wont bother me. i have done it in the past with a BBC that got 3 mpg but thats when gas was less than $1.

All the cars back then had 3spd autos or 4spd manuals with no OD.
Sort of funny to me when I see the young guys thinking a th400 is extreme in a daily driver. I suppose if you do a lot of highway driving then it might be a pain with a high stall and a lot of gear.

I gotta agree here. It's good how technology has improved but a lot of people either forget or aren't old enough to remember that the pre-overdrive trannys were daily driven by everybody. I used to have a 67 Camaro with built t350, 4.56 gears and no lock up converter that was my sole source of transportation. If you're asking if it hold up to daily driving, no problem. If you're asking if you'll like it, that's personal preference.

Yup, I had a daily driver 70 'cuda with a 440, 727 trans, 3200 converter with 4.10s and N50 15s and drove that car to las vegas from chicago (sold the car and delivered it) and never even thought about it back then. They made over 25 million (so I've read) TH250/350/375s alone over the years so obviosly people survived with not having OD.

Now the 68 datsun pickup truck I drove back from that trip was a different story..

With 3.70s, 27" tall tires and a TH350 this car feels like it has overdrive compared to that car

If your daily commute is over 25 miles each way on a 70mph expressway then maybe I wouldnt do it, if its mostly city or sitting in rush hour traffic it wouldnt bother me at all.
