Default Probably a stupid question forgive me

Looking at purchasing a truck for motor and trans to do a turbo build. Truck is a 04 2500hd with a 6L LQ4. Im assuming the trans behind that is a 4l80 or 80e the truck is 4 wheel drive. Being that its 4 wheel drive it has a transfer case which robs power. Can the transfer case be pulled off and the trans be run without it or am I looking for a 2wd vehicle with a 4l80 if that makes any sense.

ie.

is there a 2wd 4l80/e and a 4wd 4l80/e or are they the exact same just one has a transfer case put on the end for 4wd?

Sorry if its dumb and thanks for all replies and advice. I don't have someone to teach me so i'm teaching myself, hopefully with this awesome sites help.

Yes there is a 2wd version of the 80E.
Unless you were taring it apart anyway, you would have to to change the output shaft and also by a tail section to make it 2wd.
Mine was out of a 2wd 2k express van.
The only dumb question is one not asked!

If its a killer deal you can get a 4WD unit, change the output shaft and add a tail housing from parts off Ebay-someone would have to tear down the trans to install the parts, but on a used trans makes since to freshen it up anyway
There is no 4L80, they are 80E's

$800 USD for 04 LQ4 with 4l80e what do you think is it worth it price wise to pickup and put a tail shaft on ?
