4L60 Rebuild Cost Hey guys,
I plan to rebuild my transmission and replace the 2wd output shaft with a 4wd shaft. I had planned to buy an off the shelf kit and a new sun shell but after months of reading it appears I need to buy 800.00 in parts or the transmission will fail. This gives me heartburn knowing that mass produced GM transmissions run for hundreds of thousands of miles.
The trans is going behind a 180k mile 5.3, and into a 39 year old Jeep that may never get a paint job or accumulate more than 5K miles a year.
Surely there is a happy medium with parts selections.
Input is welcome, I hope to start soon.

Most of those 100k+ transes running around have torque management on them.
This helps them live a long life.
Odds are pretty good that all the complaints/failures of ANY of the trans on this forum, it's been turned off thus needing $800 of hard parts and still no guarantee.

Depends on what you going to do and power levels . If the Truck is going to be at or near stock power and mostly driven in a normal manor I would say a good basic stock rebuild with a mild shift kit , Heavy duty regular width band, Corvette servo . beast shell and borg warner sprag should be plenty.

I am actually looking at your kits, seem to be the best of the best from top to bottom without options for a 2004 unless I am not looking in the right place.
The 5.3 will remain stock with the exception of a true dual exhaust and I will pin the pedal at times but, but for the most part I would drive it like a pickup, Tahoe or Suburban vs a Camaro or Vette.
