4l80e using 5 bolts?
I have a 2001 lq4 and in looking for a 4l80e, which i found one that is out of a 98 2wd van. my question is since the 12 o'clock bolt hole is missing on the 4l80e and the 1 o'clock position is not tapped on the LS engine block, will 5 bolts be ok for higher hp, 700hp. Can i drill and tap that 1 o'clock hole on block? Should I find a ls style housing 4l80e? Or just run it with 5 bolts. Swap going into a 66 nova for street use.

I ran 4 bolts in mine. The 2 lower ones on each side for over 3 years up until I recently totalled it and never had an issue. Street miles on our rough *** roads around here and TONS of track passes. You’ve got the crossmember and mount holding it up tight as well so you will be fine.

The bolts dont hold torque, thats what the dowels are for. The bolts just clamp the bellhousing to the engine, no more, no less. Lots of people purposely leave the 12 o clock bolt out bc its a pain in the *** to remove and install, as did i yesterday, reinstalling my 60e into my yukon.
