Will a 4160E bolt up to a small block 400?
I don't know if that will change Jay's answer; the bell housing bolt pattern might be different for the V6 engines versus the V8 engines.
In any case, you can assume that a nearly 20 year old trans, especially a weak 700R4, will not hold up to a performance V8.

The 60 degree v6 bellhousing is different than the 90 degree v6 and all v8's.
I once swapped the internals out of a recently rebuilt 2.8 700r4 into a v8 case to use in a s10 350 swap.
The age isn't a bad thing, it may have been rebuilt and upgraded.
Theres nothing weak about a 700r4, they have basically the same internals as a 4L60E. Just tuning the shift points is a pain in the ***.
