400 swap in progress. Quick question.
Car is a turbo car so I’m running solid motor mounts. I’ve got the 4 bolts along the “sides” of the transmission but I’m having issues getting to the top 2.
I’ve loosened the motor mounts and still can’t get the motor to angle down enough (even with the weight of the transmission hanging off the back) to reach them. I’m guessing next thing will be to drop the K? Just looking for any advice really before I carry on. I could easily be missing something simple.

Good point. I was able to drop it enough to see the one offset to the right from center. I never was able to get the bolt started though. I’m guessing it probably is a standard housing though since it won’t start. No problem tightening the other bolt though with the intake off though from the top??

Btw, thanks for your shifter mounts, they're perfect fit! Good luck with your swap.
Which solid motor mounts do you have? I have UMI's solid motor mounts, which indicates left/right,top/bottom. I used long extension and swivel sockets to bolt the trans to the block. And it takes time and ALOT of patience. You'll get it!

I can’t remember which mounts I run. I wanna say they are umi but it’s been 3-4yra since I purchased them. I’ve got swivel sockets and the extensions. I just can’t get it to drop low enough to see. I’m goinf to try and take the intake off tonight. I’m hoping that will make the last bolt easier. Don’t wanna fool with dropping the K. Your welcome for the mount! I’m glad it worked so well for you.

You don't have to completely drop the K member, just loosen the bolts 3/4s of the way. This should give you an inch or more of a drop. Shouldn't take more the 5-10 minutes with a 1/2 drive impact.
Thanks guys. I did try loosening all the bolts on the K to allow it to drop a little more and it just wouldn’t work for the top bolt. I’m guessing the solid mounts just wouldn’t let it move. Took about 10 minutes to slide the intake off and another 10 to make 1/16 turns on the bolt but the transmisson is finally secured
Definitely some great info on the stock bellhousing bolts of the 400. I would still be down there trying to get that last bolt started if I hadn’t started this thread. 🙄
