Default Cracked transmission case!

Hey guys. I've been having some bad driveline vibrations. After what has happened I finally think I know why. But on my way home from work I driving about 60mph and I heard a loud boom and my car wouldn't accelerate. So I put it in neutral and had enough momentum to coast into my driveway. Started poking around and found my trans case was cracked. Which I'm sure now is a product of an unbalanced driveshaft. What I wanna know is if it would be cheaper to buy a used trans and swap it or have the guts swapped into a new trans case. I know for a fact it's unfixable. I have a photo but it won't upload at the moment. Btw it is a v6 but the trans is about the same between the v8 and v6 anyways.

Hell of a vibration to break the case, especially with a v6. Is the car lowered or something?
Driveshaft too long?

It would be cheaper for me to just buy a case and swap it out. Can you do that kind of work?

I can buy a whole core for $40.

The problem with that question is, what condition is your transmission in? VS buy a whole other one and swap it in having never seen the inside.

If you swap your case you might end up with a rebuild but a good trans in the end.
If you buy used you end up with a mystery that might need a rebuild.

I believe the car is lowered. But my assumption was that it needed u-joints so I replaced those. While I was down there I also replaced the trans mount. The issue never went away. The vibration was terrible you could feel it all through the car. I maintained my trans very well. The car has 162000 miles on it but it's a very babied v6. Never really dove head first into a transmission before. I've done all the work and maintenance on my car. No one but me has touched it. Idk if I could tackle trans issues or not.
