bought this 80e used, did the hd2 kit it didn't seem bad inside so i Installed, had no reverse. Tried a few things, low pressure in d and reverse. Pulled it apart.
The major things i found:
Direct drum is cracked on the back, all the way around and the inside is tore up.
Also the bearing on the pump looks real bad.
clutches and steels have minimal wear, nothing else looks terrible.
I assume the drum cracked from an overpressure situation? If so why?
any ideas or thoughts.
Want to make sure I fix any underlying problems during the rebuild.
thanks

Is that the boost valve thats all rusty?
It's very common to have runaway line pressure due to a worn or rusted stuck boost valve.
I've seen mine at 850 psi on a gauge with a Sonnax valve with 20,000 miles on it.
My guess is that it had that problem when you got it. Did you run it or take it apart before installing the hd2 kit.
You're lucky that didn't come through the floor.
